“Composition as Process” is a multidisciplinary collection by Alexander Grawoig that explores the half-remembered past and the eternal now, manifested through a multisensory approach that encourages contemplation and a deeper understanding of the cyclical nature of life. At the heart of this collection lies the artist's use of burlap as a filtering medium, akin to the manipulation of sound through electronic modules. By painting through the burlap onto the canvas, the artist imbues the works with a sense of depth and texture, capturing the ephemeral nature of the creative process. The resulting canvases, with their captivating interplay of materiality and gesture, invite the viewer to engage in a tactile and immersive exploration of the present moment.
ABOUT THE ARTIST

Alexander Grawoig
Self-taught artist and composer blending experimental sound and visual art. Alexander Grawoig is a self-taught visual artist and music composer. He began his creative path supporting his family’s graphic design business, which laid the foundation for his interdisciplinary career. After leaving high school, he immersed himself in music and art, drawing from genres like jazz, classical, folk, and electronic, and artistic movements such as Fluxus, Impressionism, and Abstract Expressionism. Since 2008, he has released acclaimed experimental music under names like D/P/I and Deep Magic, performing at major venues like MoMA PS1 and collaborating with artists such as Laraaji. In 2022, he pivoted to visual art, debuting in Mexico City's Art Week and exhibiting internationally. Now based in Querétaro, Mexico, Grawoig continues to explore the intersections between sound, image, material, and the metaphysical.
